by Ashley Heil ,Here is what we had:
1. Beef and Brie salad (20,000 won). Since coming to Korea, I've missed great salads. At first, I thought this was too expensive for a salad, but this was one of the best salads I've ever had. The salad was topped with grilled onions and asparagus, brie cheese, and beef. The tenderness of the beef mixing with the fresh vegetables, vinaigrette dressing, and the creamy brie cheese was wonderful. While everything else I had at McCoy's was really good, this salad was my favorite thing. It was a good-sized salad, but after it was gone we instantly wanted to order more. But, alas, we had other dishes coming. 2. Spatchcock chicken with 15 spices (20,000 won). I was so excited to eat this juicy-looking chicken I forgot to take a picture! The chicken was served on the bone and with your own choice of mustard. We got a garlic herb and honey mustard which tasted just like the mustard we had in Germany, and went very well with the chicken. Although, the chicken was so juicy and flavorful we didn’t need to top it with anything. The server had warned us that the chicken would be spicy, but it wasn't spicy. Despite this, it was still seasoned excellently and I had to excuse my date-manners so I could pick it up with my fingers and enjoy every piece. 3. Pork ragu pasta (20,000 won): This pasta rivals the pasta I've had at other well-known Italian restaurants in Seoul. It was hearty, creamy, filled with shredded pork, and came with a thick sauce, and delicious eggplant. 4. Apple pie (9,000 won): Personally, I'm normally not a pie person, but my boyfriend loves anything apple, so we had to order it. This apple pie is baked-to-order, served with ice-cream, and reminded me of Crème brûlée. It was sweet and a bit crunchy and the perfect size to share. It was a great way to end this delicious meal. Of course, with a good meal, you can't forget the wine. The wine prices are as follows: House red wine: 6,000 won, House white wine: 7,000 won. I'm no means a wine connoisseur, but the wine was good and I definitely had no complaints there. Overall, if you're looking for a nice restaurant to go on a date or to just share some high quality food with friends, McCoy's is a great place. It's definitely a new favorite for us! Directions: 1 Sinheung-ro 12gil, Yongsan gu, Seoul. Go to Noksapyoung station, exit 2. Walk until the road veers off to the left and walk up that road, towards HBC. Walk all the way up the hill until the end of the road and you will see the sign for McCoy's straight ahead of you in the right corner. Phone: 070-8872-9292

by Ashley Heil I don't know what has taken us so long to write a review on Mix and Malt because it's in our top 3 favorite restaurants and one of the places that we are repeatedly amazed with. But every now and then we become surprised that there are some people that still don't know about Mix and Malt, so we figured a review was finally due. Mix and Malt is an American restaurant and bar, with a wide range of cocktails and drinks, and a full menu of delicious food that you choose from an iPad to order. The atmosphere is dim but romantic and cozy. Everything we've had there has always been amazing. Among our favorites are the lasagna (American-style, very cheesy), the mayonnaise-filled but scrumptious BLT, some of the best fish and chips you can find in Seoul, spaghetti and meatballs, bangers and mash, and an excellent chili and rice dish. Additionally we've also tried the Fish and Chips (served with malt vinegar), poutine with fresh mozzarella, and a new crab snack. Everything again was amazing. We've never had a single bad thing at Mix and Malt. Recently, they've added a French dip sandwich with cheese on top and a side of au jus (~18,000 won), made with the same roast beef that they use with on the Roast beef plate. This sandwich is so tender and delicious, and we ended up liking it even more than the Roast beef plate. It was a very hearty portion of meat as well, so I ended up being comfortably full. Recently they also added Mix and Malt makes some of our favorite cocktails as well, including their Dark Mojito, Moscow Mule, and a Dirty Martini. For 3 or so dishes shared between 2 people and a cocktail each, prices can go 60,000 won and up, but for a nice night out Mix and Malt is well worth it.

Hours: 5pm-2am Address: 종로구 창경궁로 29길 3, Seoul, Korea Phone: 02-765-5945 by Michael Jones My favorite reason for working in Itaewon is the abundance of great food available and Gino’s Pizzeria is a great addition to the neighborhood. Gino’s restaurant, which is across the street, has been open for slightly more than a year now, but that is a dine-in restaurant. Gino’s Pizzeria focuses on slices, some different menu options, and delicious expediency. When you are hungry, you can pop in, pick a slice, and be on your way in a few minutes, or you can dine in, crush a slice, and people watch from the seating along the window.
Today was my first time going to Gino’s Pizzeria and my girlfriend and I ordered: three cheese slices, one pepperoni, and two grandma slices. The grandma slices reminded me of Sicilian pizza and we enjoyed the crispy crust, the fresh tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella, and basil. The cheese and pepperoni slices were thin, slightly crispy, slightly greasy, and exactly what we wanted from a New York style slice of pizza. Overall, everything tasted great, the service was excellent, the owner and the staff were very kind, and the pizza was high quality and fantastic. I will definitely be making my way to Gino’s Pizzeria more often. Enjoy! by Michael Jones Over the past few years many burger places have opened throughout Seoul, but there are only a handful of them that I really enjoy. The 100 Food Truck is one of my favorite places to enjoy a great burger. The burger (9800 won) is a messy, juicy, delicious combination of high quality beef, slightly crunchy bun, succulent bacon, lettuce, onion, tomato, and a delectable mustard sauce. The sweet potato fries and spicy wings combo basket (~7000won) is also great and goes great with the burger. The fries are thinly cut and the chicken wings are covered in a spicy red sauce. I normally don’t eat wings that often, but I found myself continually reaching for more, despite the fact that my lips were on fire. The crispy skin and the succulent meat beneath had me reaching for the basket often. This is the third time I’ve eaten at The 100 Food Truck and each time I’ve had a good experience. The first floor, where you order, is a little crowded and the stairs are steep, but the seating area is extremely comfortable and you can gaze at Seoul’s skyline while you eat. If you are in the mood for some delicious, American style comfort food, then I highly recommend visiting The 100 Food Truck.

Enjoy! Pizza Iconic makes some of the greatest pizza in Seoul. So great in fact, that the owner can afford to be closed on Saturdays. On Sundays, he opens at 4:00PM until he sells out and only does takeout. Despite this, customers line up before he opens and stretch to the main road. The owner makes each pizza himself and between pies, will walk the line to take the next orders. If he sells out while you're in line, it could be devastating.
The pizza is phenomenal and the owner is dedicated to making high-quality, mouth-watering pies. After our wait, we sat at the nearest GS25, bought drinks and devoured an 18-inch New-York style pepperoni pizza (33,000 won). As soon as we opened the box, the smell of crisp pepperoni and fresh mozzarella was intoxicating. The slices were huge, dripping with grease, and absolutely wonderful. If you are a pizza lover, then pizza iconic is a pilgrimage-worthy destination. Also available (somewhat off-menu it seems) is a thick, very saucy and delicious Detroit-style pizza (~32,000 won). It comes in a rectangle of 4 slices, and while it seems small at first, it is very filling. The pizza was almost more like a lasagna, but it was so delicious we didn't care much. While the greasy New-York style pizza was one of my favorites I've had in Seoul, I think I was even more blown away by the Detroit pizza. Whichever style of pizza you prefer and order, if you're a pizza lover, you must make the trip to Pizza Iconic. While sometimes his hours can seem inconvenient and it might seem a bit far for people north of the river (like us), it is DEFINITELY worth the trip. Now go eat some good pizza! Our apartment is small, and without an oven, it is difficult to make cookies and brownies like we did at home. Thankfully, because of places like Cre8 Cookies, our craving for cookies can be laid to rest. Cre8 is located on Kyungridan-Gil and is tucked in a little alley up the hill and to your right. Once you pass the pet shop, filled with fluffy kittens and surrounded by gawking people, you're almost there. The shop is small, but decorated wonderfully and it’s a great place to relax, chat, and devour some truly incredible cookies that even the cookie monster would approve of. We have no reservations saying that these are our favorite cookies we’ve had since moving to Seoul over 2 years ago. The owner is extremely friendly and very passionate about baking. She will even go out of her way to bake some individual cookies for you. Last night, she made us two Nutella and peanut butter cookies and we devoured them in seconds. The inside was flaky, and the gooey peanut butter and sweet Nutella rocked our taste buds. We also had an M&M and a white chocolate chip and almond cookie. All of the cookies are delectable, melt in your mouth, instant smile inducing delicious. The owner will also give you a frothy glass of milk to wash down the crumbs and to dunk your cookies in. Most of the cookies are (1,900 KRW) but some, such as the Nutella and peanut butter, are (2,500 KRW) due to the price of ingredients. She also sells coffee and her cold brew is a wonderful choice for (3,800 KRW). The coffee was strong, but smooth, and pairs perfectly with freshly baked cookies. We love Cre8 Cookies and will definitely be regulars. This might hurt my Grandma’s feelings, but I might have a new favorite cookie. Like the neon sign says in the back of the shop “Let's Dough It”. Because this post has to do with both coffee and pancakes, I posted it on the Food Envy page as well as the Coffee Envy page. Enjoy! A few months ago, I wrote a blog post here about my favorite coffee shops in Seoul.
Although we wrote about how much we enjoy their coffee, especially the delicious Stumptown Coldbrew coffee they serve, we actually hadn't ever tried their pancakes. We finally got around to it about a week ago. We know a few other places for some great brunch and pancakes in Seoul, including Butterfingers and Uncle Sam's Pancake, but I have to say Pancake Epidemic might be my favorite pancakes. The original (what we got) are 6500 for 3 pancakes or (I believe) 11,000 for 6 pancakes. The stack seems high, but they are on the smaller side so Michael and I split 6 and still were left wanting more. The pancakes are super fluffy and moist even without any syrup on them. On top a sort of buttery cream was served. It looked a bit gross and strange at first, but it was very delicious. They also serve a Nutella stack of pancakes, which I will for sure try next time, and a ham-and-cheese stack of pancakes. If you're looking for some breakfast and great coffee or simply a sweet snack, this is definitely the place to come to. I cannot praise their coffee enough and these pancakes are fantastic. Give it a try and let us know how you like it! Pancake Epidemic is open everyday from 10:30AM-10:00PM. We decided to give it a try because it had Bún chả on the menu, which my boyfriend and I haven't seen much on other Vietnamese restaurant menus in Seoul. They also serve Pho Bo for 7,000 won, but we went with the Bún chả for 9,000 won. Now we are by no means Bún chả experts, I've only ever had it one other time in Hanoi, but it was awesome. The dish is served with grilled fatty pork with a nutty topping, a heaping amount of rice noodles, onions and fresh herbs on the side. At Quan Bui, they served the dipping sauce on the side, so you can dip any combination and amount of the noodles and meat and herbs into it as you'd like. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious, and I felt very satisfied by the end of the meal, despite it looking like a small amount of meat at first. I'd love to come back here to try the Pho as well. I'd love to continue trying Bún chả in Seoul, but if you are near Anam, it's definitely worth checking out. It's very easy to get to as well.

This dish of thinly sliced pork is marinated in a thick and spicy chili paste and stir-fried, but at this restaurant the meat tastes chargrilled and the slightly spicy sauce complements the fattiness of the meat. For 16,000 won you receive enough Jeyuk Bokkeum for two people, delicious side dishes, and you also get to choose a complimentary stew. We usually order the Kimchi Jjigae. The broth is tangy, spicy, and filled with tofu and slices of pork. The restaurant is definitely worth the trip. Seoraegol Ddukbaegi-jip serves our favorite Jeyuk Bokkeum in Seoul.
